Suffrage PRoject: Expanded

In this portion of The Suffrage Project, we expand our notion of suffrage and look into the stories and personal histories of our company dancers as a window into the diverse American experience.

We begin the second chapter of our story with…

Woman: Unraveling

Originally meant to be the opening to the final section of Sadie Weinberg’s Reimagining Suffrage Suite this solo is the embodiment of the solo voice within a movement. A successful movement of any kind asks that individuals give up a little part of themselves for the greater good. Watch guest artist Rachel Torres’ take on Weinberg’s solo as a video project.

From the Reimagining Suffrage Suite (Part 2):

Zephyr Unfolding

The final section of Weinberg’s Reimagining Suffrage Suite, this piece for 10 dancers begs the question, “at what point does one sacrifice their own needs for a cause greater than oneself?” This piece was originally performed in LITVAKdance’s Fall 2019 production and was slated to be performed in our cancelled show at the Lyceum Theater last April.

We complete this triptych of dances with a playful solo by Weinberg’s mother considering their Maternal Ancestors…

The Ceiling

A playful take on the suffrage movement of the early 1900’s performed by Bezti Roe inspired by Roe’s grandmothers (Weinberg’s great-grandmother’s), who were young women when the 19th Amendment was ratified. Art work by Wren Polansky (Weinberg’s sister)
